Police say drunken Joplin man caused accident, injuries

A 22-year-old Joplin man is facing charges that he drove drunk, caused
a motor vehicle accident that injured two people, and also endangered
a child. The man allegedly drove his pick-up through the stop sign and
flashing red light at the intersection of Highways 43 and 60.

His truck crashed into a Ford SUV headed east. A woman from Aurora and
man from Neosho were injured,
according to the Joplin Globe.

Unfortunately, many car accidents in the Joplin area are caused by drunken
drivers. On MADD’s Missouri website, the organization notes that “the
rate of drunk driving is highest among 21 to 25 year olds” — the
age group in which the defendant in this case falls.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration says that
nearly one quarter — 23.4 percent — of all drunk driving accidents involve
drivers in that age group. Let’s be clear: though those drivers are
young people, they are all adults and all have heard repeated
warnings about the dangers of drunk driving from MADD and other organizations.

There is no excuse for needlessly causing the physical pain and emotional
turmoil that victims endure when injured in car crashes involving intoxicated
drivers. If you or a loved one has suffered at the hands of an impaired
driver, you can fight for justice with an experienced personal injury
law firm at your side.
