At Johnson, Vorhees & Martucci, we believe in the importance of celebrating the achievements of our local community. While we are often applauding for friends and neighbors, it is a great pleasure to be able to announce that one of our very own family members is in the spotlight today.

Annaliese Vorhees, daughter of Partner-Attorney Scott Vorhees and graduating senior of Joplin High School, recently won a $2,500 National Merit Scholarship. She was one of 2,500 winners selected out of a finalist pool that exceeded 15,000 students who participated in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program from states across the country.

Finalists were selected for showing or embodying:

  • Impressive accomplishments
  • Student and educational skills
  • Great potential for success

Less than 1% of high school seniors in America were able to be named as semifinalists after completing a qualifying exam in 2018. High school counselors joined college admissions officials to decide the winners. Everything from school records and average grades to continual involvement in school activities and local educational conferences was used to make the final selection.

From all of us at Johnson, Vorhees & Martucci, we would like to congratulate Annaliese and all the other students announced as scholarship winners in this round of the National Merit Scholarship Program. Two more pools of winners will be selected later in the summer, and we eagerly look forward to who earns the honor then!
